Thoor dal sambaar


Ingredients

1/4 cup thoor dal
2 marble sized tamarind
2 pinch turmeric
1/2 chopped onion
1 chopped tomato
2 slit green chillies
1 cup mixed vegetables like carrot, beans and cabbage, drumstick, radish
2 tsp sambaar powder
1 pinch asafoetida or hing
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
4 nos curry leaves
4 tsp chopped corrainder leaves
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp ghee

How to make Thoor dal sambaar

Cook thoor dal with little water and turmeric for 4 whistles in pressure cooker till nicely mashed.
Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup warm water and take out the water.
In a pan pour 2 tbsp oil add mustard let it splutter and add urud dal and curry leaves, then add green chillies, onion fry a little.
Put cut tomato and fry for 2 mins, add the cut vegetables and fry for 2 mins.
Pour the tamarind water and sambaar powder and asafoetida and boil for 3 mins.
Add this all to the cooked thoor dal and cook for 1 more whistle.
Open the cooker after steam goes, and garnish with corrainder leaves and 1 tbsp ghee.
